PALS Panels to Tackle GAP, Reinsurance, Online Claims

ORLANDO, Fla. — Highlights of the upcoming P&A Leadership Summit include three panel discussions targeting matters of immediate concern for executives and thought leaders working in the highest levels of the F&I industry. The two-day event, which is co-located with the annual Industry Summit, will begin Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Fla.

On Tuesday at 1 p.m., Kristen Gruber of Dealers Assurance Co. will serve as moderator for “The Inside Scoop: Straight Talk From Industry Leaders,” an executive panel featuring Dave Duncan of Safe-Guard Products International and Arden Hetland of American Financial & Automotive Services. The group will offer a C-level perspective on mounting GAP losses, the effects of the Trump tax cuts on reinsurance selection and performance, and online pricing and sales of F&I products, among other topics.

At 3:35 p.m., GPW and Associates’ Greg Petrowski will helm “The Reinsurance Climate: A Look at NCFCs and DOWCs,” a panel discussion staffed by Richard Irvine of PwC and MarksNelson’s David Kaseff. The four experts will dig into the effects of the Tax Reform and Job Act on noncontrolled foreign corporations and dealer-owned warranty companies.

The next day’s schedule includes “Can Online Claims Help Your Organization Achieve Efficiency and Scalability?” at 2:05 p.m. Moderator Brent Allen of StoneEagle will be joined by Safe-Guard’s Jardon Bouska, Stephen Fort of APEX Protection Inc., RoadVantage’s Garret Lacour and Kumar Kathinokkula of F&I Administration Solutions. The panel will track the progress of online claims portals and mobile applications, including which products can be adjudicated and paid online and the advancements widespread adoption of the emerging technology would require.

Other sessions include keynote addresses, featured presentations, and networking opportunities. Registrants are also welcome to attend any session on the Industry Summit agenda, which begins with Compliance Summit on Monday, continues with onsite Product Specialist certification by Automotive Compliance Education (ACE) Tuesday, and concludes with a full slate of advanced F&I training Wednesday.

“For an event dedicated to giving voice to the concerns we share, productive panel discussions are an essential component,” said David Trinder, CEO of F&I Admin and chair of the PALS advisory board. “We are grateful to each of our moderators and panels for dedicating time and energy to addressing these critical issues.”

Cindy Allen to Talk ‘Tech and Trends’ at Industry Summit, PALS

ORLANDO, Fla. — Organizers announced that StoneEagle CEO Cindy Allen will deliver the luncheon keynote address to a combined audience of Industry Summit and P&A Leadership Summit attendees in Orlando next month. The co-located events will be held at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 8–10.

Allen’s address, “No Human Necessary: Emerging Tech and Impactful Trends,” will begin at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. In it, she pledged to get dealers, F&I professionals, and other industry members up to speed on some of the most important and impactful trends in the technology space.

“Uber announced it is investing $150 million in autonomous car tech. Tech like [Toyota’s] Bird’s Eye View and Apple CarPlay now influence how I think about my next vehicle purchase, vehicle subscription services are on the rise, Amazon’s hyper growth has put many brick-and-mortar retailers out of business, and digital retailers are pursuing the entire new car purchase online! No human necessary!” Allen said. “If we aren’t already thinking about how we will play in this new world, we will miss the game completely. I’m looking forward to sharing some of the trends and tech we see emerging as the pressures of the digital consumer renaissance continue to grow.”

David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of the Bobit group of industry publications, said Allen’s address comes at a critical time for all involved parties.

“Never has the demand for content relating to a dealership’s ability to compete on the digital battlefield been so great,” Gesualdo said. “We thank Cindy for taking on this important topic and for sharing her insights into the challenges and opportunities it presents.”

GAP Experts to Discuss Mounting Losses at PALS 2018

ORLANDO, Fla. — Organizers of the annual P&A Leadership Summit announced that Lee Bowron of Kerper and Bowron and Allstate Dealer Services’ Ben Woods will team up to present a session dedicated to rising GAP losses at the 2018 event. Co-located with the annual Industry Summit for the sixth consecutive year, PALS will be held Oct. 8–10 at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Fla.

“This issue weighs heavily on the minds of executives in the P&A segment and will continue to do so until the numbers improve,” said David Trinder, CEO of F&I Administration Solutions and chair of the PALS advisory board. “This session presents a rare opportunity to get up to speed and prepare for the work that lies ahead.”

The 55-minute session, “Rising GAP Losses: 2018 Update,” will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Bowron and Woods first teamed up to tackle the topic at last year’s event.

“GAP losses continue to remain high as the industry seeks to adapt to the significant loss trends experienced over recent years,” said Woods, who serves as loss modeling manager for Allstate Dealer Services. “I’m excited to be back with Mr. Bowron to present an update on residual values, total loss frequency, and other factors impacting GAP losses.”

The staple F&I product has been plagued by declining residual values, multiplying total losses, and riskier financing. Bowron and Woods pledged to deliver an update on those factors as well as a forecast for GAP losses going forward.

“We look forward to discussing the latest developments in GAP,” said Bowron, co-founder of the actuarial firm of Kerper and Bowron. “We will be examining some of the structural changes in the underlying auto insurance and repair industries which have and will continue to impact GAP going forward.”

Are We There Yet? Pryor to Go Digital at Industry Summit, PALS

ORLANDO, Fla. — David Pryor, CMO of Safe-Guard Products International, will tackle the subject of digital retail in a general session for P&A Leadership Summit and Industry Summit attendees in Orlando next month, organizers announced. The events will be held Oct. 8–10 at the Caribe Royale Orlando, with Pryor set to take the stage at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

“Digital retail has the potential to disrupt our industry, the biggest change to F&I since the introduction of menu-based selling, maybe bigger,” Pryor said. “You owe it to yourself and your clients to be aware of what this means for your business and the future of our industry.”

Pryor plans to discuss the current state of automotive digital retail, including its effects on the F&I process, where this rapidly evolving segment is headed, and the potential widespread adoption of digital sales and financing solutions and processes holds for all involved parties, including dealers, agents, and F&I product providers.

The conference, which is designed by and for leading executives in the F&I product provider and administrator segment, is co-located with Industry Summit and will be held Oct. 8–10 at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Fla.

Perry’s address, “The Future of Transparency,” will begin at 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. He pledged to track the evolution and effects of transparency on the auto retail and finance industry and share insights to help dealers and product providers compete in a more transparent market without sacrificing efficiency or profitability.

“Transparency is among the forces driving the present and future of our industry, as it should be,” said David Trinder, CEO of F&I Administration Solutions and chair of the PALS advisory board. “With a track record of success through times of sweeping change, Chip Perry brings a great deal of gravitas to our stage, and we anticipate a highly insightful and memorable address.”
