SWDS’s Larry Pomarico to Lead Reinsurance Symposium Panel

LAS VEGAS — Organizers of Agent Summit have announced that Larry Pomarico, senior vice president of SouthWest Dealer Services, will serve as a panel moderator at this year’s Reinsurance Symposium. The symposium will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at the Venetian Palazzo in Las Vegas.

“With all of the reinsurance options available for dealers — accompanied by the ever-changing tax and compliance landscape — the Reinsurance Symposium is critical for those who wish to gain an in-depth understanding,” Pomarico said. “The ability to hear from so many experienced industry experts at the same time is a rare opportunity that should be taken advantage of.”

Pomarico’s panel, “Participation Offerings, Structures and Rewards,” will be staffed by Rob Hehr of GSFSGroup, Tim Houseberg of Delaware Tribal Financial Services, Nelson Marks’ David Kaseff, Jay Sharpnack of CNA National and Portfolio’s Graye Wolfe. Their discussion will focus on the numerous reinsurance programs available today and how agents can better assist their dealer clients in the selection process.

“We are grateful to Larry and his panelists for taking on this difficult but important task,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Agent Entrepreneur and F&I and Showroommagazines. “I believe they will find a very receptive audience at Agent Summit.”

GSFSGroup’s Field Force Completes AFIP Certification

COLLEYVILLE, Tex. – The Association of Finance & Insurance Professionals (AFIP) announced that Gulf States Financial Services Group’s entire dealer-support cadre completed the AFIP Certified F&I Professional program in 2015. David Robertson, AFIP executive director, conducted a review and proctored the certification exam in the final round of testing at the firm’s Houston home office in December.

According to Robertson, “This group’s 100% first-time pass rate is indicative of the organization’s longstanding commitment to regulatory competence. A large number of the GSFS candidates moved up to Senior and Master Certification status.”

Commenting on the latest round of testing, Steve Amos, GSFSGroup’s president, said, “Nothing speaks more to GSFS’s commitment to our values and concern for the regulatory health of our organization than AFIP certification. We are very proud of our team’s test results and their commitment to excellence.”

AFIP Certification provides F&I professionals with a comprehensive working knowledge of the federal and state laws that govern in-dealership financial services, with an emphasis on best practices and ethical conduct. “The Certified F&I Professional program’s primary objective,” said Robertson, “is to place as many individuals with a working knowledge of state and federal regulations governing the vehicle purchase, funding, leasing, and owner protection processes as close to car-buying consumers as possible.”

The two-tier process calls for the certification of in-dealership financial services officers, backed by regulation-savvy dealership support personnel. In the last 25 years, AFIP has certified more than 50,000 in-store employees, field operatives of captive and institutional lenders and aftermarket product vendors, and independent general agents. “The result has been a dramatic reduction in breaches of consumer trust,” said Robertson.

“GSFS will work to convince dealers to have their F&I personnel certified,” said Amos. “With the CFPB presence today, it makes good sense to know your team has a clear understanding of the right thing to do.”

For the past 33 years, GSFSGroup has provided a contemporary and comprehensive mix of vehicle owner protection products and services, backed by committed customer service, basic and recurrent training, hands-on mentoring and oversight through its direct and general agent distribution channels. Its objective is to enhance the vehicle ownership experiences of car buyers in its core states of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, and throughout the U.S.

PALS Panel on Self-Governance Draws Interest

LAS VEGAS — Organizers of the annual P&A Leadership Summit have announced that “Govern or Be Governed,” a compliance-themed panel staffed by leading executives from the F&I product providers segment, is drawing marked interest among attendees. The event will be held Sept. 9–10 at Paris Las Vegas.

“It’s clear [the topic] has struck a nerve in the industry, where compliance in general and the machinations of the CFPB in particular weigh heavily on the minds of dealers and the directors of the companies that serve them,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of F&I and Showroom and P&A magazines. “The fact that many of the leading minds in the F&I products segment were willing to take on this topic is undoubtedly among the main reasons the panel is generating a high level of intrigue throughout the industry.”

The panel is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. Moderator Tim Meenan, an attorney and managing partner of Meenan PA, will be joined by Steve Amos, president of GSFSGroup; David DeCredico, senior vice president of business development for EasyCare; Doug Frey, Allstate Dealer Services’ executive vice president and COO; Mark Macek, president of United States Warranty Corp.; and Kelly Price, president of National Automotive Experts.

Among other topics, the panel is expected to speculate on what form guidance from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in the F&I products arena might take, including price or markup controls; whether product providers can stave off new regulations by preemptively imposing their own rules; and how providers, agents and dealers can work together to ensure that their interests, as well as those of car buyers, can be protected in such a scenario.

Registration for the P&A Leadership Summit is now open. More information, including the full agenda, speakers and hotel room block is available at the event’s website. ‘Govern or Be Governed’ Panel Takes Shape

LAS VEGAS — Organizers of the annual P&A Leadership Summit have announced the members of the first of three panel discussions at this year’s event, which will be held Sept. 9–10 at Paris Las Vegas.

“Govern or Be Governed” will be staffed by executives from several of the industry’s leading F&I product providers. Steve Amos, president of GSFSGroup, will join David DeCredico, senior vice president of business development at EasyCare, Doug Frey, executive vice president and COO of Allstate Dealer Services, Mark Macek, president of United States Warranty Corp., and Kelly Price, president of National Automotive Experts. Tim Meenan, an attorney and managing partner of Meenan PA, will serve as moderator.

“With Tim Meenan at the helm of an all-star team of thought leaders from the provider segment, expectations are high,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of F&I and Showroom and P&A magazines. “This panel understands that the threat of perpetually stricter rules and regulations affects them as well as agents and dealers.”

The discussion is expected to address the lack of guidance from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in the insurance space and how self-governance, such as consistent pricing of F&I products and caps on markups, could help keep regulators from taking an active interest in the segment.

Registration for the P&A Leadership Summit is open now. Attendees who register by Aug. 7 will enjoy a $100 early-bird discount. More information, including additional speakers and travel, is available at the event’s website. To inquire about sponsorship or exhibition opportunities, contact David Gesualdo via email hidden; JavaScript is required or call 727-947-4027.
